Army officer's wife booked for alleged espionage in Jammu

Jammu and Kashmir Police have booked the wife of a senior Indian Army officer for alleged espionage involving links to Chinese intelligence agents. The accused, a resident of Telangana currently living in Jammu, is suspected of sharing sensitive defense-related information and documents with foreign operatives who posed as academicians and digital content creators.

Investigators describe the situation as an ‘intellectual trap,’ where the woman was reportedly engaged to write research papers and articles. While initial interactions focused on environment and geopolitics, the scope allegedly shifted toward strategic national security topics, including Line of Control (LoC) dynamics, drone deployment, and critical infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh. Some reports indicate she may have used AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude to prepare these analytical papers.

An FIR was registered at the Gandhi Nagar Police Station under the Official Secrets Act, 1923, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The woman was reportedly intercepted at the Jammu Tawi railway station on October 14 by a joint team of central intelligence and local police. While she has been questioned and is cooperating with authorities, officials have noted that preliminary inquiries are ongoing to determine the full extent of the information transmitted.
