Indian athletes face mixed developments ahead of 2026 Asian Games

Indian athletes are facing contrasting experiences ahead of the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Long-distance runner Gulveer Singh, a national record holder, expressed confidence in his ability to secure medals. Following his success at the Commonwealth Games, where he won bronze in the 5000m and silver in the 10,000m, Singh stated his focus remains on the podium rather than his competitors. He noted that training under coach Scott Simmons has helped Indian athletes realize they are at the same level as international competitors.

In contrast, wushu player Divyanshi Chaudhary has leveled serious allegations of physical and mental harassment against the Wushu Association of India (WAI). Chaudhary claims she was unfairly removed from the seven-member squad for the 60kg Sandah category despite having medical clearance. While the WAI maintains she was excluded due to an ACL tear and fluid accumulation identified in an MRI, Chaudhary alleges the decision was made to accommodate another athlete. She expressed significant emotional distress regarding the situation.
