Indian athletes face rising injury setbacks at Asian Games

Multiple Indian track and field athletes have withdrawn from the 2026 Asian Games due to injuries. 400m hurdler Yashas Palaksha was forced to retire during his heat after sustaining an apparent hamstring injury before clearing the first hurdle.

Other notable withdrawals include 100m hurdler Jyothi Yarraji, who withdrew after experiencing knee pain during warm-ups, and triple jumper Praveen Chithravel, who was unable to complete his jump due to a calf muscle pull and required a wheelchair. The increasing number of injuries among key Indian competitors has raised questions regarding athlete selection and fitness assessments prior to the games.
