Indian Athletics Series Final serves as Asian Games tune-up

The Indian Athletics Series Final is being held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium as a critical preparatory event for India’s track and field athletes ahead of the Asian Games in Japan. The one-day invitational event serves as the conclusion of a 15-leg series established by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) in April.

Most of India’s 77-member Asian Games squad, including notable athletes such as steeplechaser Avinash Sable and Yashvir Singh, are scheduled to compete. The AFI has introduced a total prize fund of Rs 65 lakh for the finale, with winners in each of the 30 events receiving Rs 1 lakh.

While most athletes will depart for Japan this Saturday to begin acclimatization at the University of Tsukuba, some competitors, including long jumper Murali Sreeshankar, high jumper Sarvesh Kushare, and triple jumper Praveen Chithravel, have already arrived in Japan to prepare for the upcoming continental competition.
