Automakers expand EV and multi-powertrain lineups in India

Major automotive manufacturers are intensifying their presence in the Indian market through new electric, hybrid, and CNG vehicle launches. JSW-MG Motor India is set to unveil the Hector Tomahawk, a seven-seater SUV that may offer both electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The electric version is expected to feature a battery pack providing a range of approximately 530 to 550 kilometers.

Other manufacturers are also expanding their portfolios. Maruti Suzuki is developing a compact electric hatchback expected to debut in fiscal year 2026-27, while Hyundai Motor India plans to launch a compact electric SUV by March 2027. Kia is pursuing a multi-powertrain strategy, including factory-fitted CNG models like the Carens Clavis and various electrified models.

The sedan segment is also seeing updates, with the 2026 Škoda Slavia facelift entering the market. Looking toward 2027, companies including Renault, Kia, Mahindra, and Tata are preparing new or updated compact SUV models to address shifting consumer preferences.
