India allocates ₹500 crore SDRF aid for Odisha floods amid HeeraKund dam alerts
The Union government approved an advance release of ₹500 crore as the second instalment of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for FY 2026‑27 to support flood‑hit Odisha. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for the timely assistance. The Centre also made a total of ₹2,117.85 crore available to seven flood‑affected states, including ₹379.35 crore for Assam and allocations to Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh and Nagaland.
In Odisha, the HeeraKund dam has been releasing water at an average flow of 389,603 cusecs, with the reservoir level at 625.47 ft, prompting high‑alert status for ten downstream districts. The flood has impacted more than 8.34 lakh people across 20 districts, damaging public infrastructure and several hectares of crop land.
The central government also issued an additional advance of ₹1,09,019 crore to states, of which Odisha received ₹4,819 crore. Corporate donors have contributed to flood relief in Assam, including Indian Bank (₹1.20 crore), State Bank of India (₹1.6 crore) and the Adani Group (₹11 crore).
