India bank branches close in multiple states for Eid-e-Milad and Thiruvonam

Banks across numerous Indian states and Union Territories are closed on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, in observance of Eid-e-Milad and the Thiruvonam festival in Kerala. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar, closures affect major regions including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, and several others.

While physical bank branches are shut, digital banking services such as UPI, mobile banking, internet banking, and ATMs remain fully operational.

In the financial markets, the BSE and NSE remain open for equity trading, allowing investors to buy and sell shares. However, the day is designated as a settlement holiday, meaning the clearing and settlement of funds and shares will be deferred. Commodity markets, including MCX and NCDEX, also continue normal trading operations.
