Indian Coast Guard commissions indigenous vessel ICGS Ajit

The Indian Coast Guard has commissioned the ICGS Ajit, an indigenously built Fast Patrol Vessel, at Goa Shipyard Limited. The commissioning ceremony was led by Dr Sirish Choudhary, Principal Integrated Financial Advisor of the Indian Coast Guard.

The 51.43-metre vessel features over 65% indigenous content, supporting India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative to increase domestic defense manufacturing. With a displacement of 330 tonnes and a top speed exceeding 27 knots, the ship has an operational range of approximately 1,500 nautical miles.

Based in Okha, Gujarat, the ICGS Ajit will enhance surveillance and security along India’s western coastline and in the Arabian Sea. Its mission profile includes coastal patrolling, fisheries protection, anti-smuggling, anti-piracy, search and rescue, and marine pollution response.
