Indian Coast Guard receives new ICGS Ajit patrol vessel

The Indian Coast Guard has taken delivery of the ICGS Ajit, a new Adamya-class fast patrol vessel (FPV) built by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL). This marks the seventh vessel of its class produced by the shipyard.

The vessel is approximately 51 to 52 metres long with a displacement of 320 to 330 tonnes. It features twin marine diesel engines driving controllable pitch propellers, a first for this class of vessel, allowing for a top speed exceeding 27 knots and an endurance of 1,500 nautical miles. The ship is equipped with a CRN 91 30mm naval gun and two M2 12.7mm machine guns on remotely controlled mounts.

In line with the ‘make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives, the vessel was constructed with over 60 to 65 per cent indigenous content. The ICGS Ajit will be operated by a crew of 39, consisting of 6 officers and 35 sailors. Its primary missions include patrolling India’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ), fisheries enforcement, anti-smuggling, anti-piracy, search and rescue, and protecting offshore assets.
