Indian Coast Guard rescues 21 after merchant vessel collision off Gujarat

The Indian Coast Guard successfully evacuated 21 crew members following a collision between two merchant vessels, MV KMAX EMPEROR and MV TRUE MARINER, off the coast of Gujarat. The incident occurred approximately 14 nautical miles from the Outer Tuna Buoy (OTB) Anchorage of Deendayal Port, Kandla.

MV KMAX EMPEROR, a loaded coal vessel with a draft of approximately 14.4 metres, sustained heavy damage and began taking on water after the impact. While 21 of the 24 crew members were rescued, the Captain and two Chief Engineers remained onboard to await further instructions from the vessel owners.

Emergency response efforts included the deployment of port tugs, the Harbour Master, a Pilot, and additional Indian Coast Guard vessels to the scene. Deendayal Port Authority has stated that other port operations are continuing as usual while the maritime emergency is managed.
