Indian Coast Guard rescues injured Bangladeshi crew member
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) conducted a nighttime rescue operation to save a 36-year-old Bangladeshi crew member off the coast of Diglipur in the North Andaman Islands. The incident occurred during the night of September 20-21, 2026.
The crew member, aboard the bulk carrier MV AMRIS, had sustained severe head and spinal injuries following a fall on the vessel. Upon receiving distress information from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Sri Vijaya Puram, the Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Rajdoot navigated rough seas to embark the casualty.
Following the initial rescue, the individual was evacuated to Diglipur Harbour and subsequently airlifted by an Indian Navy aircraft to Sri Vijaya Puram for urgent medical treatment at GB Pant Hospital.
