Indian diaspora in China flags visa cuts and anti‑India social media abuse at embassy Open House

Members of the Indian diaspora in Beijing met with Ambassador Vikram Doraiswami and embassy counsellors during the Indian Embassy’s first Open House in years. Attendees raised four main concerns: a rise in abusive, anti‑India content on Chinese social media platforms, a decline in work visas for Indian professionals, restrictions on employment for spouses of Indian workers, and difficulties with consular services.

Doraiswami said Chinese authorities are aware of the online abuse and are taking steps to address it. The embassy will counter misinformation through its own social‑media channels, simplify documentation for Chinese citizens applying for Indian visas, and expand cultural programmes such as the Vasant Mela. It is also developing a network of legal experts to assist Indians facing work‑related issues and plans to hold regular Open House events to improve consular outreach.
