Indian companies accelerate hiring at cost of background checks, report reveals

A survey of 1,647 HR professionals and business leaders in India found that 57% of respondents say their organisations regularly compromise background‑verification standards to meet faster hiring timelines. The report, Hiring Blind – Are Organisations Ignoring Background Verification Risks?, highlights a rise in credential fraud, with 33% encountering fake or inflated educational credentials and an equal share reporting identity or address inconsistencies. Another 21% said they discovered dual employment or moonlighting cases.

Respondents expressed growing concerns about gig‑work verification, with 71% urging mandatory identity and criminal checks for all gig platforms. High‑volume onboarding was cited as the biggest challenge for hiring temporary workers by 42% of those surveyed. The study also notes a shift toward technology‑led solutions, as 63% expect AI‑driven identity verification, digital KYC and continuous monitoring to become standard practice within three years. Genius HRTech chairman R P Yadav said robust verification is becoming a strategic business necessity rather than a mere compliance formality.
