Indian consumer firms set to raise prices ahead of festival season

Eight major Indian consumer companies, including Hindustan Unilever Ltd, Dodla Dairy Ltd, Asian Paints Ltd, Tata Consumer Products Ltd and Havells India Ltd, are preparing price increases across a range of products such as toothpaste, detergents, paints, tires and home‑care items. The firms cite higher raw‑material and fuel costs driven by ongoing Middle‑East tensions and elevated crude‑oil derivative prices, as well as a weak monsoon that is pushing food and fuel prices higher.

The planned hikes vary by category, with Asian Paints expecting about a 7% rise, Hindustan Unilever targeting roughly a 5% increase, Tata Consumer projecting around 7%, and Havells already raising some items by up to 8%. Companies aim to pass these cost pressures to consumers during the August‑November festival period, which accounts for a large share of annual sales, especially around Diwali.

Retail inflation in June briefly moved above the Reserve Bank of India's 4% target but remains within its 2‑6% tolerance band. The price adjustments are expected to keep inflationary pressures in focus as the festive buying season approaches.
