Indian Cost Accounts Service key to government cost optimization, says Defense Secretary

Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh highlighted the critical role of the Indian Cost Accounts Service (ICAS) in optimizing costs, managing resources efficiently, and ensuring strong financial oversight within government departments, particularly in the defense sector. Speaking at the ICAS foundation day celebration held under the theme 'Role of ICAS officers in cost optimization for Atmanirbhar Bharat,' Singh praised the professional expertise and analytical skills of ICAS officers in strengthening cost management practices.

Sanjeev Kumar, Secretary of the Department of Defense Production, noted that cost accounting expertise is increasingly vital for strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities. This expertise is expected to reduce import dependency and enhance India's competitiveness in the global export market. Additionally, V. Vualnam, Secretary of the Department of Expenditure, emphasized that as private sector participation and Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) grow, ICAS officers will play a key role in ensuring cost efficiency, proper risk allocation, and improved project structuring.

The event included the release of an e-brochure detailing the service's development and achievements, as well as technical sessions on innovation and the use of Artificial Intelligence in public financial management. The Defense Secretary also honored six young ICAS officers for their outstanding contributions.
