Indian courts grant bail to law students and launch perjury case against lawyers

The students were released on bail.

The Allahabad High Court ordered criminal perjury proceedings against two lawyers after finding they had inserted unlawful interest‑rate clauses into a typed copy of a 2016 land‑acquisition award to benefit a client. The bench described the act as a deliberate misrepresentation, questioning whether advocacy can still be called a "noble profession". The court sanctioned the perjury action and highlighted the need for integrity in the legal profession.
