Indian courts rule on protest permissions and political signboard dispute

The Delhi High Court has directed the Delhi Police to decide on an application by the Kshatriya Karni Sena regarding a planned protest by September 14. The organization seeks permission to hold a demonstration at Jantar Mantar on September 20 to protest against reservation policies and recent University Grants Commission regulations.

Previously, police had denied permission for a September 6 protest due to preparations for the BRICS Summit. The court instructed the petitioner to submit a fresh application for the new date, noting that authorities may impose legal conditions on the demonstration.

In a separate legal matter, the Supreme Court of India declined to interfere in a dispute involving the Trinamool Congress regarding the removal of a party signboard in Kolkata. The Supreme Court requested the Calcutta High Court to expedite its decision on the party's plea, which challenges the removal of the sign from the office of MP Abhishek Banerjee without prior notice.
