Indian courts rule on wildlife sanctuary delays and association naming

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued notices to the central and state governments regarding delays in the final notification of the Omkareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary was a compensatory ecological commitment made in 1987 following the diversion of forest land for the Narmada Sagar Multipurpose Project. A public interest litigation challenges the failure to finalize the sanctuary despite the fulfillment of statutory and administrative processes.

In a separate legal matter, the Orissa High Court upheld an order from the Inspector General of Registration (IGR) requiring the All Odisha Truck Malik Mahasangha to change its proposed name. Justice Savitri Ratho dismissed a petition challenging the IGR's decision, noting that the proposed name was too similar to the Odisha State Truck Owners’ Federation and could potentially confuse the public or members of existing organizations.
