Indian customs seize multi‑crore gold shipments on Dubai‑origin flights
Customs officials at Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport seized gold worth about ₹4.27 crore hidden inside a speaker box on an IndiGo flight arriving from Dubai. The consignment comprised 24 foreign‑origin gold biscuits weighing roughly 2.8 kg.
At Surat International Airport, authorities recovered 238 g of 24‑carat gold valued at around ₹36.89 lakh, concealed in an abandoned gold‑coated bangle on an Air India Express flight from Dubai. In both cases no passenger or crew claimed ownership, so the metal was seized under the Customs Act, 1962. The seizures are part of a broader crackdown on gold smuggling through Indian air routes, and investigations are ongoing.
