India Customs Tribunal Overturns Bird Confiscation as CBIC Adds Udongudi Coal Port
The Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT) in Kolkata set aside the confiscation of 35 live exotic birds and mammals and related penalties, ruling that the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence failed to prove the goods were smuggled. The tribunal also rejected penalties imposed on a Mahindra Scorpio vehicle linked to the case.
Separately, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) issued Notification No. 66/2026‑Customs designating Udongudi in Tamil Nadu as a customs station for unloading imported coal, expanding India's coal import infrastructure in the south.
