Indian cyber scammers swindle victims of insurance fraud for millions

In Ajmer, Rajasthan, fraudsters posing as insurance company officials convinced a resident to transfer roughly ₹6.5 million by claiming his policy would lapse, prompting a police complaint at the local cyber crime cell.

In Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, a retired teacher fell prey to a three‑year scheme in which callers claimed to be insurance agents and demanded installments, ultimately extracting about ₹43.15 lakh. Both cases involved phone pressure, false promises of policy renewal, and threats of loss, leading investigators to secure call records and audio messages while searching for the suspects.

Authorities have opened investigations, warned the public against such telephone scams, and are tracing the bank accounts used for the transfers.
