India and Greece strengthen defense and shipbuilding cooperation
A high-level Indian delegation, led by Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, visited Salamis Shipyards in Greece to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the defense and shipbuilding industries. The visit focused on maritime security, shipbuilding technology, and joint industrial initiatives.
During the visit, the delegation reviewed the technical and industrial capabilities of Salamis Shipyards. A key component of the ongoing partnership is the collaboration with India’s ACT Infraport Ltd to develop a modern greenfield shipbuilding and ship repair yard in the Gulf of Kutch, Gujarat. This project leverages Greek technical expertise and management practices to create an internationally competitive facility.
In addition to the shipyard visit, Defence Secretary Singh met with Greek Deputy Minister of National Defence Athanasios Davakis in Athens. The discussions aimed to expand defense cooperation through policy planning, joint staff talks, and capacity-building exercises. Separately, Singh announced the launch of revamped Ministry of Defence and Department of Defence websites, now available in 22 official Indian languages to improve digital accessibility.
