Indian equity markets see domestic buying momentum as FII interest returns

Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) have provided consistent support to Indian equities, acting as net buyers every week over the past month with cumulative purchases totaling Rs 38,715.18 crore.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) have shown signs of renewed interest, with buying exceeding Rs 4,115.93 crore in August so far. This follows a period of heavy selling in the first two weeks of the month. Despite this recent uptick, FIIs remain net sellers on a cumulative basis, with total outflows of Rs 3,173.68 crore, according to Pabitro Mukherjee of Bajaj Broking.

Market performance for the week saw the Sensex decline 0.62 percent to close at 78,009.25, while the Nifty fell 0.83 percent to 24,366. Analysts noted that rising crude oil prices, with Brent crude trading around $87.18 a barrel, alongside geopolitical uncertainty, remain key risks for the Indian market.
