Rani Mukerji honored at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne

The 17th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) has commenced, featuring a star-studded opening ceremony with prominent figures such as Rishab Shetty, Dulquer Salmaan, and Vijay Varma.

During the festival, actress Rani Mukerji received a special citation for excellence in acting, celebrating her three-decade career and her ability to portray diverse, impactful female characters in films like ‘Mardaani’ and ‘Black’. Additionally, Mukerji was conferred an Honorary Doctor of Letters by La Trobe University at Federation Square, becoming only the second Indian film personality, after Shah Rukh Khan, to receive the distinction.

Mukerji expressed that the recognition was a humbling experience, noting that her characters have helped her grow and that cinema serves as a cultural bridge.
