Indian films ‘Gadi’ and ‘Angh’ gain international recognition

Two Indian films are gaining international attention within the cinematic landscape. The Marathi psychological thriller ‘Gadi’, backed by Anurag Kashyap, is scheduled to premiere at the Dharamshala International Film Festival (DIFF) from October 29 to November 1, 2026. Directed by Rohan Pingal, the film explores themes of free will through the story of a grieving father in a Konkan hamlet.

Separately, the Konyak-language drama ‘Angh’, directed by Theja Rio, is pursuing an Academy Award for Best International Film. Although not India’s official selection for the 2027 Oscars, the film has automatically qualified for the category after winning the top prize in the Platform section at the Toronto International Film Festival. Set in 1962 Nagaland, ‘Angh’ depicts a village chief’s struggle to preserve traditional animistic beliefs against the spread of Christianity.
