Indian firms Krutrim and India Today Group lay off workers amid restructuring

Krutrim, India’s first AI unicorn, announced a second round of workforce reductions, cutting roughly 20 to 25 employees from product and engineering teams. The cuts follow earlier layoffs of more than 100 staff in 2024 and a smaller round in September that targeted its linguistics division. The company is shifting its focus to AI cloud services and reported a revenue jump to about Rs 300 crore and a profit margin above 10 percent for FY26.

Separately, the India Today Group dismissed 120 employees over four days in July, citing a restructuring drive. The layoffs affected staff across the Hindi website, TV, radio, and data‑intelligence units, with many receiving two months’ salary in advance while others were paid only basic pay. The move comes as the media house’s profit fell 81 percent and revenue dropped 19 percent in the last fiscal year, attributed to lower advertising income and losses in its radio business.
