Indian government to fund Murali Sreeshankar's surgery in London

The Indian central government and the Union Sports Ministry will provide full financial and medical support for long jumper Murali Sreeshankar to undergo urgent surgery in London.

Sreeshankar, who secured a silver medal at the 2026 Asian Games, sustained an ankle injury during the competition. He is scheduled to undergo ligament reconstruction surgery on October 13 at the Fortius Clinic in London under the supervision of sports orthopaedic surgeon Pieter D'Hooghe.

Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi confirmed that the Centre is covering all costs for the procedure and subsequent rehabilitation to assist the athlete's recovery and preparation for the Olympics.
