Indian Governors Call for Drug-Free Youth Campaign in Universities

Governor K.T. Parnaik of Arunachal Pradesh and Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya of Assam urged university leaders to lead a nationwide “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat” campaign aimed at creating drug‑free youth. The 100‑week initiative, scheduled to begin on 2 August under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calls for active student participation, anti‑drug cells on campuses, district task forces, sports engagement, and community‑based counselling.

In a virtual conference at Lok Bhavan in Itanagar, Parnaik addressed vice‑chancellors, health, education, sports, youth affairs officials, police and Red Cross volunteers, emphasizing a whole‑of‑government and whole‑of‑society approach. A parallel hybrid meeting in Guwahati saw Acharya ask university vice‑chancellors to use the MY Bharat platform to mobilise students as ambassadors of a drug‑free society and to strengthen industry‑academia collaboration for skill development.
