India High Commission warns citizens against job seeking in Malaysia on tourist visas
The High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur has issued an advisory warning Indian nationals against misusing Malaysia’s 30-day visa-free entry facility to seek employment. The mission reported a “noticeable increase” in Indian citizens arriving in Malaysia under this scheme specifically to hunt for jobs.
Many travelers are reportedly being misled by “unscrupulous agents” with fraudulent job offers. Such misuse of the visa-free facility, which is strictly intended for tourism and social visits, constitutes a violation of Malaysian immigration laws. The High Commission warned that those attempting to work without a valid work permit or Visa with Reference (VDR) face serious risks, including overstaying, illegal immigration status, exploitation, detention, and legal action.
To avoid immigration issues, genuine tourists are advised to carry verifiable documentation, including a confirmed return ticket, hotel bookings, and proof of the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) submission completed at least three days prior to arrival. Passports must also have a minimum of six months' validity.
