Indian High Courts issue warnings over non-compliance with judicial orders

High Courts in Goa and Telangana have issued warnings to government officials regarding the failure to comply with previous judicial directives.

In Goa, the High Court reprimanded local governing bodies for delays in managing and enumerating stray dogs. The Division Bench, comprising Justices Valmiki Menezes and Amit S Jamsandekar, warned municipal chief officers and panchayat secretaries of potential disciplinary action and contempt proceedings. The court noted that despite directions issued in October, many local bodies failed to submit required affidavits and public notice records. Additionally, the court directed the Curca-Bambolim-Talaulim panchayat to immediately consider a construction license proposal for a new animal shelter.

In Telangana, the High Court warned that the State Chief Secretary must appear personally by November 4, 2026, if the government fails to comply with orders involving the School Education Department. A Division Bench expressed dissatisfaction with the state authorities' handling of court orders, noting that certain directions dating back to July 2022 remain unimplemented. The proceedings involve allegations of willful disobedience by senior officials under the Contempt of Courts Act.
