Indian hospitals deploy 5G-connected ambulances for emergency care

Healthcare providers in India are deploying 5G-enabled ambulances to enhance emergency medical response through real-time data transmission and remote specialist monitoring.

In Bangalore, Bharti Airtel has partnered with Cisco and Apollo Hospitals to demonstrate a 5G connected ambulance. The vehicle is equipped with advanced medical tools, telemetry devices, and patient monitoring systems that transmit health data to hospitals in real time. The initiative aims to optimize the ‘Golden Hour’—the critical period following trauma or serious illness where medical intervention is most effective.

In Chennai, Kauvery Hospital has introduced a fleet of over 30 5G-enabled ambulances. These units function as advanced cardiac life support units, featuring ventilators, defibrillators, and multiparameter monitors. Using an IoT-based Continuous Patient Monitoring System (CPMS), the ambulances transmit vital signs such as oxygen saturation, blood pressure, and heart rate to clinicians. This low-latency connectivity allows doctors to perform preliminary assessments and provide clinical guidance to paramedics before the patient reaches the hospital.
