Indian markets prepare for Janmashtami celebrations

Markets in Varanasi and Ara are seeing significant activity in preparation for Krishna Janmashtami on September 4. In Varanasi, local business organizations estimate that the festival could generate over 10 crore rupees in turnover within two days.

Shoppers are purchasing a wide variety of items for Ladoo Gopal, including designer dresses, crowns, peacock feathers, flutes, and ornate swings. In Varanasi, swings range in price from 100 to 5,000 rupees, with high demand for traditional styles from Mathura and Vrindavan, such as zari-work turbans and pearl-studded accessories.

Similarly, in Ara, markets are crowded with devotees seeking specialized items. Retailers report high demand for Vrindavan-style turbans and swings from Mathura. Some Ladoo Gopal idols are being sold for up to 15,000 rupees, reflecting a shift in consumer preference toward more elaborate and designer decorative sets.
