Indian Medical Association protests Sunny Deol film teaser
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Resident Doctors Association of AIIMS Delhi have formally condemned the teaser for the upcoming film ‘Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak’, starring Sunny Deol. The medical bodies allege that the film’s promotional content generalizes corruption within the healthcare sector and risks justifying or glorifying violence against doctors and nursing staff.
The controversy stems from scenes in the teaser that depict medical malpractice and physical assaults on healthcare professionals as a response to medical distress. The IMA has written to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, requesting a review of the content and asking the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to remove objectionable scenes or ban the film to prevent the normalization of vigilante justice.
Medical professionals have expressed concern that such portrayals could erode the trust between patients and doctors and increase the frequency of real-world attacks on hospital staff. While acknowledging that individual misconduct should be handled legally, the IMA emphasized that an entire profession should not be defamed for the actions of a few.
