Piyush Goyal Files FIR Over AI Deepfake Video Amid Student Protests

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal condemned a viral video that appeared to show him threatening student protesters of the Cockroach Janata Party. The clip was later identified as an AI‑generated deep‑fake that altered his remarks to the media outside Parliament.

Goyal posted on X: “My remarks to the media outside Parliament have been maliciously doctored using AI … cannot and will not be tolerated.” He said a First Information Report (FIR No. 123/26) was lodged at Chanakyapuri Police Station on 25 July 2026 at 4:35 AM and warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone creating, sharing or promoting the fake video.

Government sources confirmed that several social‑media links to the deep‑fake have been removed. The Press Information Bureau’s Fact‑Check unit debunked the video and identified Pakistani propaganda accounts as the source of its circulation, urging the public to rely only on verified information.
