Indian Ministry of Defence signs Rs 661 crore BrahMos contract

The Indian Ministry of Defence has signed a Rs 661.50 crore contract with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) to procure BrahMos Fire Control Systems and launchers for Indian Navy warships. Signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, the agreement falls under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category and requires a minimum of 68% indigenous content.

The contract covers the ship platform architecture necessary for employing the missile system, including the Fire Control System which interfaces with a warship’s combat management, navigation, and sensor systems. The launchers provide the electrical interface for missile deployment. This procurement is intended to enhance the Indian Navy’s maritime strike capabilities through supersonic, long-range, precision stand-off attacks against land and sea targets.

The project is expected to generate employment over the next three years and involve various Indian industries, including micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), supporting the nation's efforts to indigenize advanced military technology.
