Indian national charged with attempted murder after Warsaw machete attack
A 37-year-old Indian citizen has been charged with attempted murder following a brutal attack in central Warsaw. The incident occurred on Nowogrodzka Street near the Novotel hotel, where the suspect approached a 58-year-old man from behind and struck him multiple times with a machete featuring a 17-centimeter blade.
The victim, who is also an Indian national, sustained injuries classified by forensic doctors as moderate and was transported to a hospital for treatment. Surveillance footage captured the assault, showing the attacker continuing to strike the victim even after he fell to the sidewalk.
Police apprehended the suspect several hours after the incident. While the motive remains under investigation, prosecutors have indicated that the two men were known to each other. The suspect has denied the charges and refused to provide explanations. The Warsaw District Prosecutor's Office intends to request a three-month pretrial detention for the individual.
