ICE proposes $470,000 fine against immigration lawyer Suraj Raj Singh

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Investigations have issued a Notice of Intent to Fine attorney Suraj Raj Singh for filing 118 fraudulent documents in 54 asylum cases. The proposed civil penalty of $470,584 is the maximum allowed under 8 U.S.C. § 1324c(d). DHS General Counsel James Percival said the fraud “threatens the safety of the American people, undermines our immigration system, and delays the removal of dangerous criminal illegal aliens.” Singh’s practice primarily represents Indian nationals seeking asylum. He may contest the fine before an administrative law judge. The action follows a similar $255,232 fine sought against attorney Vinod Doddamani earlier this year.
