Indian nationals involved in U.S. legal cases in Minnesota and Chicago

An Indian national, Mukeshkumar Somabhai Choudhary, has been arrested in Minnesota for allegedly voting in the 2024 general election by falsely claiming U.S. citizenship. Authorities state that Choudhary signed a voter certification affirming his citizenship despite not being a citizen. He faces two charges, each carrying a maximum penalty of five years in prison, totaling up to 10 years if convicted.

In a separate incident in Chicago, an Indian-American man named Ankur Patel was apprehended while attempting to flee to India following the murder of his ex-wife. Patel allegedly lured his 32-year-old ex-wife to Chicago under the pretense of seeing their daughter, only to attack her with a knife after she refused to reconcile with him. The victim had recently moved to Louisiana to start a new life with a partner.
