MT Kazimah III tanker hit by projectile in Strait of Hormuz; 5 Indians rescued

Five Indian nationals were successfully rescued and moved ashore in Oman after the Kuwait-flagged crude oil tanker MT Kazimah III was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz. The rescue operation was coordinated by the Indian Embassy in Muscat with assistance from Omani authorities.

The tanker was reportedly en route to the port of Lomé, Togo, at the time of the incident. While the specific identity of those responsible for the projectile strike remains unconfirmed, the event highlights escalating security risks for commercial vessels in the Persian Gulf, Red Sea, and Black Sea regions.

Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted that over 4,500 Indian seafarers are currently operating on commercial vessels in the Persian Gulf. This includes approximately 163 seafarers on 12 active cargo ships, consisting of six India-flagged and six foreign-flagged vessels. The Indian government continues to monitor maritime safety and vessel movements in the region closely.
