Indian Navy and Coast Guard search for missing fishermen off Andhra Pradesh
The Indian Navy and Coast Guard have launched a large-scale search operation in the Bay of Bengal following the disappearance of fishermen off the Andhra Pradesh coast.
A search is currently underway for seven fishermen from the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district who went missing after their boat met with an accident earlier this month. The operation involves Dornier aircraft from Visakhapatnam, Kolkata, and Chennai, as well as Navy helicopters and multiple vessels patrolling the waters between Visakhapatnam and Paradip.
In a separate but concurrent incident, a 50-year-old fisherman named Appanna went missing near the Visakhapatnam coast early Thursday morning. Officials report that Appanna reportedly fell overboard from a mechanized fishing boat approximately 11 nautical miles off the coast while attempting to fetch salt. Search and rescue efforts, including Coast Guard vessels and Navy boats, have been deployed to locate him.
