India advances strategic ties through naval exercises and Russia diplomatic meetings
India is actively strengthening its strategic and maritime partnerships through high-level diplomatic and naval engagements. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar recently chaired a consultative committee meeting on India-Russia relations. Discussions focused on expanding bilateral trade in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, engineering, and textiles, as well as exploring the India-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement. The meeting also addressed the deployment of 70,000 Indian skilled workers to Russia and the status of Indian nationals reportedly serving in the Russian Army.
In maritime cooperation, the Indian Navy’s stealth frigate INS Trishul participated in the 24th edition of Exercise Varuna in France. The bilateral exercise included both harbour and sea phases, featuring anti-submarine and live-firing drills to enhance interoperability between the Indian and French navies. Following the exercise, INS Trishul docked in Valencia, Spain, for professional and cultural exchanges with the Spanish Navy.
Additionally, a Russian Navy delegation visited the Southern Naval Command and the Indian Naval Academy in Kerala to discuss deepening maritime cooperation and institutional linkages. Separately, the ocean-going sailing vessel INSV Neelkanth has embarked on a 660-nautical-mile voyage from Visakhapatnam to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to mark the Silver Jubilee of the Andaman and Nicobar Command.
