Indian Navy Chief meets Mauritius PM to boost maritime security

Indian Navy Chief Admiral Krishna Swaminathan met with Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam on August 12, 2026, to discuss strengthening bilateral maritime security and defense ties. The meeting, part of a four-day official visit to Mauritius, focused on enhancing cooperation between the Indian Navy and the Mauritius National Coast Guard.

Key areas of discussion included training exchanges, information-sharing mechanisms, capacity building, and expanding operational linkages to improve interoperability in the Indian Ocean Region. Admiral Swaminathan reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting the capabilities of the Mauritius Police Force and the National Coast Guard under the MAHASAGAR vision.

During the visit, the Admiral also held discussions with senior Mauritian officials, including the Commissioner of Police and the Secretary for Home and Defence Affairs, regarding joint Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance and enhanced operational coordination.
