Kerala search operation continues for three missing fishermen

A multi-agency search operation is entering its 11th day to locate three fishermen who went missing following separate boat mishaps off the coasts of Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. The missing individuals have been identified as Gautam Krishna, John, and Shijin.

The search involves the Indian Navy, including the vessel INS Kalpeni, the Coast Guard, coastal police, and the Marine Enforcement Wing. Efforts include the use of Dornier aircraft, helicopters, and scuba diving teams to navigate difficult underwater conditions and estuary debris.

Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan and other state ministers have visited the families of the missing to offer condolences and assistance. Amidst criticism from relatives regarding the effectiveness and coordination of the search, the Chief Minister announced plans to establish a permanent sea-rescue mechanism, improve weather forecasting, and modernize coastal security by incorporating traditional knowledge and standard operating procedures.
