Indian Navy to commission INS Nipun diving support vessel on August 31

The Indian Navy is scheduled to commission INS Nipun, its second indigenous Diving Support Vessel (DSV), on August 31, 2026, at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. Built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) in Visakhapatnam, the vessel features approximately 75% indigenous content, supporting India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat defence initiative.

INS Nipun is designed for specialized deep-sea operations, including deep-sea saturation diving and underwater intervention. The vessel is equipped with advanced Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) for underwater inspection and salvage missions, as well as a dedicated side diving stage.

As a mother ship for the Indian Navy’s Deep Submergence Rescue Vessel (DSRV), INS Nipun will play a critical role in submarine rescue operations and enhancing the navy's preparedness for underwater contingencies.
