Indian Navy to induct indigenous warship ‘Samarthak’
The Indian Navy is set to induct ‘Samarthak’, an indigenous multi-purpose warship, on October 16 at the naval base in Karwar, Karnataka. Built by Larsen & Toubro Limited under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, the vessel is the first in a planned series of four such ships.
Designed for challenging maritime conditions, the ship features indigenous sensors, modern weaponry, and electronic systems integrated into a unified combat arrangement. Its capabilities extend beyond maritime surveillance and patrolling to include low-intensity operations, target deployment, and serving as a base for unmanned and autonomous systems.
Additionally, the vessel is equipped for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, with the capacity to function as a hospital ship with limited medical facilities. It can also assist in salvage operations to recover sunken vessels or objects from the sea.
