Indian opposition MPs condemn PM's remarks on children's protest

BJP leader Sunil Baral denounced a parliamentary protest by MP Pappu Yadav, who appeared in a saffron outfit, calling it an insult to Indian culture and civilization. Baral praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s compassion, saying the PM acts as a guardian for 140 crore citizens and forgives those who used abusive language against his mother.

Socialist Party MP Sanatan Pandey rebuked Modi’s statement that he forgave the children involved in the protest, arguing the children have not forgiven the government. Pandey highlighted police violence, including lathi‑charge and injuries, and warned that the administration’s promises remain unfulfilled, reflecting widespread public discontent.

Both opposition figures used the incident to criticize the government’s handling of youth demonstrations and to assert the right to free expression.
