Indian opposition parties demand resignation of Chief Election Commissioner

Political parties in India are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar following allegations regarding the independence and functioning of the Election Commission.

In Patna, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) workers held a protest led by district president Uday Yadav, calling for action against the Chief Election Commissioner. Simultaneously, Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe Patil demanded Kumar's resignation, raising concerns about the relationship between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Election Commission.

Congress leaders have criticized changes to the appointment process of election commissioners, specifically citing the removal of the Chief Justice from the selection committee. The party also indicated preparations to bring impeachment motions in both houses of Parliament and plans for street protests. Additionally, allegations were made regarding a notice issued in Kerala that purportedly showed signs of BJP influence.
