Indian para sprinter Dilip Gavit targets world records at Japan's Para Asian Games

Indian T47 para athlete Dilip Gavit, fresh from a gold‑medal performance and Games record in the 100 m at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, has set his sights on breaking world records in both the 100 m and 400 m at the upcoming Para Asian Games in Japan. He aims to run the 100 m in 10.28 seconds, a time close to the able‑bodied national record, and hopes to improve on his 2022 Asian Games 400 m gold.

Gavit, who also competes in able‑bodied national events, credits personal coach Vaijanath Kale for his progress. Speaking at a felicitation ceremony organised by Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, he said the competition in Japan will be tougher and his coach will prepare him accordingly. He remains confident about handling both sprint distances.
