Indian parliamentary panel urges DRDO to set clear KPIs and secure dedicated R&D funding for advanced defence systems

A parliamentary standing committee on defence has recommended that the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) promptly finalize and publish measurable key performance indicators covering cost efficiency, technological maturity, target dates, completion time and operational effectiveness. The panel also called for a structured, transparent benchmarking framework and stronger grievance mechanisms under the POSH Act.

The committee further advocated the creation of a separate budget line for research and development in critical and emerging technologies to accelerate India’s next‑generation defence projects. It highlighted the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme and preparations for a sixth‑generation fighter, as well as the development of supersonic and hypersonic glide missile systems. The report urges time‑bound milestones, robust testing infrastructure and dedicated funding to avoid bottlenecks and enhance strategic self‑reliance.
