Indian police arrest multiple suspects in separate cybercrime raids
Police in India have conducted separate raids targeting cybercrime syndicates in Deoghar and Durgapur, resulting in multiple arrests.
In Deoghar, authorities arrested five individuals—Sarfaraz Alam, Vijay Kumar Das, Shivam Kumar Das, Nitesh Kumar, and Amay Kumar Das—following intelligence regarding fraudulent activities in the Sarath police station area. The suspects allegedly posed as customer care officials for services like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm, promising cashbacks. They also attempted to gain mobile access by sending APK files under the guise of PM Kisan Yojana, electricity bills, or RTO challans. Police seized five mobile phones and eight SIM cards linked to various cybercrime complaints across multiple states.
In Durgapur, police arrested Saheb Mandal, a resident of Purulia, during a raid in the Rani Rasmani area of City Centre. Mandal is accused of stealing OTPs and bank details to siphon funds from victims' accounts. Authorities recovered a laptop, several mobile phones, and numerous bank passbooks and documents. Investigations suggest the criminal network may extend to Jamtara, Jharkhand.
